Strawberry Chapel: Where History and Hauntings Collide

Hidden along the banks of the Cooper River stands Strawberry Chapel, a hauntingly beautiful ruin that has captivated paranormal investigators and history buffs alike. Built in 1725, this colonial chapel holds centuries of secrets within its crumbling walls.

A Chapel Born from Tragedy

Strawberry Chapel was built by James Child as a memorial to his wife, who died shortly after their arrival in the colonies. The chapel served the local Anglican community until it was abandoned after the Civil War, leaving behind only its haunting brick shell.

Paranormal Activity

Visitors to Strawberry Chapel report numerous unexplained experiences:

  • Apparitions of a woman in colonial dress, believed to be Mrs. Child
  • The sound of hymns echoing from the empty ruins
  • Mysterious lights moving through the chapel at night
  • Cold spots and sudden temperature changes
  • Feelings of sadness and loss near the old cemetery

The Chapel’s Dark Secret

Local legend tells of a minister who practiced dark arts within the chapel walls. Some believe his malevolent spirit still lingers, responsible for the more sinister encounters reported by visitors. Others have reported seeing shadow figures and experiencing aggressive paranormal activity.
